Software Requirements

MODSIM will run under the Windows OSs above, so it is required that you have a computer running Windows to be able to install MODSIM. As Modsim evolves, the newest features and models implemented in Modsim may become part of some exercises and assignments within each module. As a result of this it may be impossible to complete some of the exercises with older versions of Modsim. However most of the course material is compatible with older student versions of Modsim, so you should not be discouraged by not being able to reproduce or otherwise accomplish a simulation with your version. Newly created course materials that work with newer versions of Modsim will be clearly indicated with a statement such as version 3.6.20 or newer required.

You can login in our Web server using any type of computer running any type of OS, as long as you have a browser with Java support enabled available. See below.

You are required to obtain a license for the latest version of Modsim from MTII. You can also use the student version of Modsim that is distributed with the book Modeling and Simulation of Mineral Processing Systems, by R. P. King.

The demo version of Modsim (version 3.6.14) that is distributed by MTII does not save Modsim jobs, and all your work is lost when you close Modsim or load another job. It is not recommended that you attempt to complete the training exercises with the demo version, but it is possible to use it for the simpler Modules 1 and 2.

If you are an academic institution, you are required to buy an Academic license for Modsim. The Academic license can be installed in your computer lab from which students can access Modsim.

If you are reading this page you already have a browser capable of displaying HTML. It will be required that your browser is Java enabled so that you view any Java based applications (mostly viewlets) during the course. In any case, if your browser is not Java compatible, we recommend that you download either Firefox or Internet Explorer.

This is not required software. We have used this in last year's course to display movies of our screens while operating in MODSIM. Some ScreenCam files are still available and in case we reutilize them, you will need to download the player.

ScreenCam player. (scplayer.exe 917 KBytes)

ScreenCam files have a .scm extension. ScreenCam is freely distributed by IBM.

This application is required and you will need it to view any PDF (Portable Document Format) files that are part of the course. All technical notes which require complex formatting and equations are delivered in PDF format. You will also find that the MODSIM Manual and some of the Course documents in the CDROM are also PDF files. If you don't have Acrobat Reader installed, you must do so by clicking in the link below.
